ENT Simulation - Voxel-Man
VOXEL-MAN simulators are based on a combination of medical image computing, virtual reality and robotics. The patient is modelled inside a computer based on real CT data and displayed three-dimensionally on the screen.
Surgical instruments are controlled using haptic real-time feedback devices, so that any contact between the virtual instruments and patient is directly perceptible. For example, small bumps can be sensed very accurately and worked on by changing pressure on the instrument. With simulated bleeding and a suction, two-handed work can be practiced.
The representations of the surgical site and instruments are also complemented by vibrations and simulated drilling noise to create as realistic an environment as possible.
VOXEL-MAN currently provide a desktop and laptop ‘lite’ system - details below:
VOXEL-MAN ENT Workstation is based on a workstation computer and a 3D display with active shutter glasses. Two haptic devices are available for controlling drill and suction (Tempo), or endoscope and instrument (Sinus).
Besides the VOXEL-MAN Tempo application, further simulator applications can be installed.
The optional housing provides two arm rests and an electrically adjustable height to ensure a realistic and comfortable working position.
A glasses-free, autostereoscopic display is also available.
VOXEL-MAN ENT Lite combines a cost effective, lightweight & portable design to run the VOXEL-MAN Tempo application.
Based on a laptop computer, the system has a responsive 2D touch display and comes with one haptic device for controlling the drill, a 3D mouse and a foot pedal.
